  • NOTE:  The Athletes Grade will be the determining factor for Age Division throughout the 2016-2017 season.
  • School and Parochial Divisions should follow the AACCA Guidelines.
  • Cheer USA Reserves the right to split/combine/add/change/omit any division when there are only 1-3 teams registered in a division.
  • Cheer USA Reserves the right to Separate Divisions into Small/Medium/Large or Combine a division into One division when there are only 1-3 registered in a division.
  • Cheer USA will divide when necessary as follows: Small (5-15); Large (16-30) OR Small (5-12); Medium (13-20); Large (21-30).
  • NOTE:  Cheer USA Championships has a Spring Performance Floor at all Events unless otherwise noted.
  • Teams comprised exclusively of 9th Graders MUST compete in the JV/FRESHMAN Divisions. Cheer USA reserve the right to change this occurring to registered participants.

DIVISION RULES & RESTRICTIONS

NOVICE SKILL RESTRICTIONS

Novice team will follow AACCA Safety Guidelines with these additional skill restrictions. 

  • (max time limit: 2 min 30 sec) Routine may be partial or all music. Novice teams will follow AACCA Safety Guidelines with these additional skill restrictions.
  • Standing Tumbling– Standing tumbling is limited to a front and standing single back handspring. (Standing back handspring series and jump/back handspring combinations are not allowed). Standing tucks are not allowed.
  • Running Tumbling. Running tumbling is limited to front and back handspring series. Flips and aerials are not allowed (no tucks).
  • Stunts– Single leg stunts may not be held or pass through an extended position. (No extended liberties). Twisting transitions are limited to a 1/2 twist by the top person (full ups are not allowed). Exception: Log Rolls/Barrell are allowed. All release moves must land in a cradle. Inversions in stunts are allowed, which must transition from ground level inversions to non-inverted positions. No other inversions are allowed.
  • Pyramids– Extended one leg stunts must be braced by at least one person at prep level or below. Connection must be made prior to executing single leg stunt and must be made at prep level or below. Any time a top person is released by the bases and braced by other top persons , they may not perform any skill during transition and must land in a cradle. Inversion in pyramids are not allowed with the exceptions of the inversions allowed under Novice Stunts. Exceptions: Release moves in pyramids are not allowed with the exception of the release moves allowed under Novice Stunts.
  • Dismounts– Only straight pop downs, basic straight cradles and 1/4 turns are allowed.
  • Tosses– The only body position allowed is a straight ride.
  • **Basket tosses, Elevator Sponge Tosses and Toe Pitch Tosses are prohibited in Elementary and Junior High/Middle School Divisions.
INTERMEDIATE SKILL RESTRICTIONS

Intermediate teams will follow AACCA Safety Guidelines with these additional skill restrictions.

  • (Max time limit: 2 min 30 sec) Routine may be partial or all music.
  • Standing Tumbling– Flips are not allowed. (No standing back tucks or back handspring back tucks).
  • Running Tumbling– Back flips may only be performed from a round-off or round-off back handspring entry. Flips may only be performed in a tuck position. No tumbling is allowed after the flip. No twisting while airborne. Aerial Cartwheels are allowed.No tumbling allowed after the flip or the aerial cartwheel or after the cartwheel tucked flips and or cartwheel back handspring. Tucks are not allowed.
  • Stunts- .Twisting transitions to and from an extended position may not exceed 1/2 twisting transition. Release moves must start below prep level and must be caught at prep level or below. Release moves may not pass above extended arm level.
  • Pyramids– During a pyramid transition, top person may pass above 2 persons high while in direct, arm‐to‐arm contact with two other top persons at prep level or below. Braced flips are not allowed.
  • Dismounts– Only straight pop downs, basic straight rides, and 1/4 turns are allowed from any single leg stunt. Up to 1 1/4 twist are allowed from any two leg stunt.
  • Tosses– Up to 1 trick allowed during a toss. Tosses may not exceed 1 twisting rotation.
  • **Basket tosses, Elevator Sponge Tosses and Toe Pitch Tosses are prohibited in Elementary and Junior High/Middle School Divisions.
ADVANCED SKILL RESTRICTIONS

(Max time limit: 2 min 30 sec) Routine may be partial or all music.

  • Advanced & College teams will follow the standard AACCA Safety Guidelines and College Safety Guidelines with no other skill restrictions.
GAME TIME DIVISIONS

TIME OUT CHEER RULES AND RESTRICTIONS (Showcase your best sideline crowd-leading material. The use of signs, poms, flags and or megaphones is encouraged.)

  • 1-minute time limit
  • Crowd Involvement Emphasized
  • At least 2 performance required from the following: Cheer, Chants, traditional yells, and or drum cadences.
  • No music permitted. Drum cadence can be used by CD or Live Drummers
  • No Baskets, sponge, elevator, or similar type tosses permitted
  • No inversions and or twisting into or out of stunts.
  • Single leg extended stunts are limited to liberties and liberty hitches
  • No running tumbling allowed.
  • Tumbling limited to standing back handspring and or standing back tucks

FIGHT SONG RULES AND RESTRICTIONS (Perform your favorite School Fight Song)

  • 1-minute time limit
  • Up to three consecutive eight counts, may include stunts, tumbling and or jumps, incorporation must repeat as performed initially
  • Same Restrictions as listed in Time Out Cheer Rules and Restrictions

TIME OUT DANCE RULES AND RESTRICTIONS (Perform your favorite Time Out Dance)

  • 1-minute time limit
  • Traditional sideline uniforms required
  • Crowd Entertainment Emphasized
  • No stunts or tumbling permitted

NON-TUMBLING SKILL RESTRICTIONS (Teams will follow the Skill Restrictions and Standard AACCA Safety Guidelines)

  • Tumbling is not allowed in the Non-Tumbling Division
  • Max time limit 2 min 30 seconds (Partial or all music)
COLLEGE SKILL RESTRICTIONS

(College Teams will follow the AACCA College Safety Guidelines w/no other skill restrictions.)
